Congratulations on your name being drawn for the epic adventure of a lifetime. I hope you are reading this review as you are trying to decide who to entrust this adventure with. We were drawn for the 2023 hunt and started asking friends and family in Maine for guide recommendations. Ben Allen with Epic Adventures was a name we heard more than once so we checked out his website and picked up the phone to talk to the man. The zone we had been awarded was not in Ben’s hunting area, but he was able to give us direction on how to trade the permit for a different zone and the week of the rut. Ben did the necessary paperwork to complete the trade he followed through to ensure everything was all set. Over the next few months Ben was always available to answer any of our questions which were many. The camp was exactly what we wanted, we slept in the canvas wall tent with wood stoves which was perfect and felt more like a real hunting trip. The guide team that Epic Adventures has is top notch, these guys know their stuff and shared lots of stories about their different experiences in the woods. The food was wonderful, Ben’s entire family is involved with feeding the hunters, the desserts that were served were homemade and perfect after a day of hunting, every night we all sat down together to talk about the day we had a dream of the hunt the next day. After the moose was harvested Ben set us up to take pictures that he knew would showcase our prize, after the photo session Ben got to work field dressing the big bull, we were lucky because the moose we harvested dropped 100’ from the dirt road we came in on. Using the On-X radios that they carry while out of cell signal Ben contacted two of the guides that had already harvested moose with their teams, they made short work of getting the moose loaded on the truck and off to the tagging station. There Ben set us up to take the iconic Maine Moose Hunt picture that you see in magazines. We then drove to the processor that Ben knew and would be able to process the moose and freeze the meat for transportation. We discussed different types of mounts, Ben recommended a taxidermist to do the European mount, the mount is absolutely beautiful and very well done. The camp is immaculately maintained and incredibly comfortable. Ben Allen, our guide Seth Edwards, and the entire team went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, making us feel welcome and well taken care of every step of the way. The food was nothing short of outstanding—Adam kept us fueled with delicious meals each and every day! I was also impressed with how clean everything was kept; attention to detail was clearly a priority. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of our guide, who remained positive and persistent even when the moose were elusive, we were ultimately rewarded with an incredible bull moose.
